Calendar13 October – Lindsay and Tamsin

October page starring Lindsay and TamsinThis is the October page from ScienceGrrl’s 2013 calendar. It stars:

Lindsay Lee, PhD, is a statistician at the School of Earth and Environment, University of Leeds. She researches the effect of uncertainty in computer models on the predictions that the School makes. This allows research to focus in the right places, making better models and predictions. She loves to use statistics to find out how models work and why they predict as they do. In her spare time, when she is not on holiday scuba diving or skiing, she can be found training for the 2013 London marathon – injuries permitting.

Tamsin Edwards, PhD, has a doctorate in particle physics and is now a post-doctoral climate scientist at the School of Geographical Sciences at the University of Bristol. Here, she tries to understand uncertainties in a range of models predicting the Earth’s future. Her projects are interdisciplinary, meaning that she can draw on skills and knowledge from different areas of science. In her spare time, Tamsin plays capoeira, an Afro-Brazilian art form that combines dance, martial arts, music and song.
